Last night, the most intense windstorm in 50 years hit the Smithville area. Nobody was injured, but damages have left roads blocked and hundreds without power. Derrick Gembus, a resident on Barty Ln. said,
I was just lying in bed watching television when I hear this loud BANG from outside. I looked out the window and there was a tree fallen right across the road!
Smithville Electric stated this morning that any roads with fallen powerlines be reported immediatly, and DO NOT attempt driving on these streets.
Other residents have started cleanup in their neighborhood and shopping districts. Officials have stated the cleanup should be finished within the week.
On the subject of weather, winds tonight will be much calmer. Small chance of showers after 7:00pm and then heading into tomorrow we'll see clear skies.
